Jesse Starr Photography Weddings

Client Testimonial:

Having Jesse photograph our wedding was a wonderful experience. He was a consummate professional and worked diligently to make certain that we were completely happy. He excelled at what I feel is the most important part of any vendor: he listened. Whether it was the consultation beforehand or the ceremony and the reception he was always paying attention to what we wanted. He was always willing to catch whatever craziness my friends were doing at the time, which is no easy task.  All of this and I haven’t yet even mentioned the quality of the photos. They are truly works of art, and they captured us in exactly the light we hoped. We will always be eternally grateful for the photos and memories we will always have. -Chastity V. T.

MY STYLE LOVES YOUR STYLE:

My style is MODERN yet TIMELESS, bringing a unique vision to classic beauty.  I mix candid photojournalistic moments with directed, set up images to capture the day and create an album that reflects who you are and how you felt. I may ask you to HOP up on a swingset or JUMP in the air or say something inappropriate to each other to get you to enjoy yourself and show your TRUE EMOTIONS.  Throughout the day, I often move from romantic to fun and back again.

I am always looking for frames and backgrounds that are not seen by the casual observer. This may mean putting you in a location you won’t understand until you see the final image. I love to experiment after I’ve gotten the “safe” shots and create a one of a kind piece of ART for you.

I try to make friends with everyone at the wedding and make sure I’m not interfering with your guests’ GOOD TIMES. However, I am not afraid to take charge and make sure we stay on schedule so that you have all the photographs that will be the only permanent RECORD OF THE DAY.

My style loves YOUR style! I want to reflect who YOU are and I strive to do this with every image.

I include a second shooter in my wedding coverage collections to ensure that nothing gets missed and all angles are covered.  If you are having a very small wedding, we can discuss other potential options.

My goal for every wedding I photograph is to create a beautiful Heirloom Wedding Album that will be the first heirloom you create as a new family.  I shoot with the album in mind and tell the story of the day through the images and design.  I save you the trouble of selecting the album images and pre-design the perfect album for you.  (Don’t worry, you are allowed to make changes to make sure I include a favorite picture of yours that I might have missed although clients rarely make changes.)  Read all about albums on the Heirloom Wedding Albums page.

Wedding Photography FAQ:

Is your style pure photojournalism?

Is your style pure photojournalism?

I like to say my style is photojournalistic but not exclusively. I like to capture photographs that look like I was at the right place at the right time but you can expect to have cues from me to elicit natural expressions and interactions and make you look your absolute best.

How many images will be taken at my wedding?

How many images will be taken at my wedding?

I tend to take about 30-60 photographs per hour depending on the schedule of the day. Since I shoot largely in the photojournalistic style, I am taking a large number of images to capture as many moments as possible. I edit out all the photos that you wouldn’t want to see such as unintentionally out-of-focus ones or ones that have been overexposed by a guest’s flash firing at the same time as mine.

What is 'post-production' and how much of it do you do?

What is 'post-production' and how much of it do you do?

Post-production is the work done to photographs after they have been taken and is similar to the time that would have been spent in the darkroom in the days of film. I shoot in a format called RAW which allows me to capture the greatest amount of information in each file. RAW files are basically digital negatives and require developing using specialized software to create finished photographs. All images are adjusted for color balance, contrast adjustment, and sharpening. A large number of my images are then further enhanced using different software to achieve the looks I desire. Black and whites and sepia toned images are examples of files that require further post-production work. It takes skill and experience to be able to develop RAW files to their full potential and I have a significant amount of education in this area.

Do you shoot Canon or Nikon?

Do you shoot Canon or Nikon?

Some bridal magazines suggest asking this question but it really shouldn’t matter as long as you know that I know how to use the equipment I have. That said, I use professional Nikon DSLR cameras and a wide range of professional lenses. My cameras allow me to take images in lower light levels than are possible with amateur equipment. I also use Nikon’s top of the line flash system, which allows me all sorts of creative off camera flash options. I have multiple backups of equipment to ensure that if something goes wrong, I am able to continue working.

Can other people take photos at the wedding?

Can other people take photos at the wedding?

Of course (as long as they are not a professional)! Everyone deserves to have the opportunity to record the day as they see it and I have no problem with guests taking pictures. I have even helped a guest with setting up their camera when I had a spare minute. However, I do ask that during the formal picture session, guests refrain from taking pictures until I have finished. This is to ensure that everyone is looking at me when I need them to and you get the images you are paying me for. No one wants to be the one person in the group portrait who is looking at the wrong camera.

Do you take family group formals during the wedding?

Do you take family group formals during the wedding?

Of course I do! It is such an important part of the day because it is usually the only time that everyone is together. I do everything I can to make this process painless and efficient so you can get back to the celebration.

What is the importance of hiring a fully insured professional photographer?

What is the importance of hiring a fully insured professional photographer?

A professional carries business liability insurance in the event of accidents that inevitably happen during some weddings and events. Asking if your photographer is insured is also a good way of determining their professional commitment because amateurs will either not understand the need for expensive business insurance or will see it as an unnecessary expense. Also, some venues will not allow your photographer to shoot without a Certificate of Insurance. Even if they will, should a guest trip over a piece of the photographer’s equipment, without proper liability insurance you could be financially responsible. Jesse Starr Photography is fully insured with the proper business and liability insurance through a major provider.

Why should I hire a professional photographer instead of my uncle with the expensive camera?

Why should I hire a professional photographer instead of my uncle with the expensive camera?

The fact of the matter is that someone who does not take wedding photographs professionally is unlikely to have the experience, knowledge, and skill required for the most difficult of the photography professions. Professionals know how to make things work in rapidly changing light and challenging situations. They also have back-up plans that amateurs will not have. I could give you many other reasons but the point is, there is no rescheduling your wedding day if you didn’t receive acceptable photographs and do you really want to trust such an important task to someone that could let you down? While you don’t need a professional photographer for everything, your wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime event. And your wedding photography will only grow in value and importance as the years go by. Shouldn’t you entrust it to a highly trained professional photographer, someone who will do you justice on your big day?
