I believe every business, regardless of size, should make an effort to consider their impact on the environment. At Jesse Starr Photography, I constantly evaluate everything that goes into both the creation and delivery of photography to my clients. I keep an eye on green guides and try to incorporate their ideas into my operations. The following are some of the ways I try to minimize my negative impact on the environment:
- I am a 100% digital photographer, which eliminates the hazardous chemicals related to film photography.
- I use rechargeable batteries in my camera flashes and cameras.
- I use local labs to cut down on my carbon footprint.
- I use eco-friendly packaging for delivering products to customers.
- I buy lightly used gear from other photographers, keeping it from heading to the landfill.
- I offer a selection of eco-friendly albums made from recycled materials.
- I offer a selection of eco-friendly frames made from recycled/ sustainable materials.
- Client digital files are delivered on re-usable USB drives made of recycled wood instead of one-time use plastic DVDs/CDs.
- I offer press printed products on recycled papers.
- I offer eco-friendly fine art prints on bamboo fiber based papers.
- I run Energy Star rated Apple laptops.
- I live an eco-friendly lifestyle personally. Among other things, I bike wherever possible, I airdry my dishes and clothes, and keep lights off as much as possible.
To keep me accountable for my green practices, I applied for and was admitted to the Green Bride Guide wedding vendor directory. You can learn more about the Green Bride Guide at: http://www.greenbrideguide.com/ and find other eco-friendly vendors at the Green Wedding Directory.
